5 Tips for Starting Your Own AVON Beauty Blog

Since I have been online with my blog, I have received questions from fellow AVON representatives on how to start your own AVON beauty blog... so this blog post is devoted to sharing 5 tips for starting your own blog. I have learned so much from my time blogging and still have a lot more to learn, but am growing every day in becoming more proficient at it.

5 Tips

Starting Your Own AVON Beauty Blog

Tip 1: Brand Yourself

Before starting your own blog, you need to take a step back and think about what will make you different from all the other direct sales beauty representatives and AVON representatives out there. What is unique about you? What will make you stand out? What will people remember when they come across your blog? You want to choose a name for your blog that is creative and memorable. It also needs to be something that represents beauty, AVON, makeup, fashion, health and wellness, etc. From what I understand from Avon's rules and guidelines, you cannot put "Avon" in your blog name.

I chose the name "More Than Beautyful" for my blog. I wanted my blog to convey that beauty is more than just skin deep, the person inside matters more. To read more about why I named my blog More Than Beautyful click here.

The name you choose for your blog can be used for more than just your blog, use it to brand yourself and use it for your blog, social media, marketing materials such as business cards or fliers or posters, and more. Your blog name can represent more than just your blog, it's your brand.

Tip 2: Choose Your Host Carefully

The decision for which company I was going to use to host my blog on was a big one. I was looking for more than just mechanics for writing, posting, and archiving my posts. I not only wanted a host that was easy to use for writing and posting, but one that would give me a beautiful looking, streamlined website too. When you are deciding which host company to go with you will need to consider pricing too. Do your research on the front end. You don't want to have to go through the headache of changing hosts once you are up and going.

I chose to use WIX to host my blogsite. I could not be more pleased!! It is super easy to use and has customizable templates to get your started. Also, they have so many marketing tools that make my life easier!

Tip 3: Learn to Use Keywords

When you are writing blog posts, you are writing so that you can be found on the internet, so that when people are searching they will come across your website. If you are not familiar with it already, you need to know about SEO (search engine optimization) and using keywords in your blog posts. When you learn the basics about SEO and using keywords you will already be on your way to creating blogposts that will draw in readers.

Here is a brief article by WIX that explains SEO. And another article by WIX on using keywords. These 2 articles are just a basic intro, do some research on the front end so that you will be able to start from the beginning having your site optimized.

Tip 4: Posting Frequency Matters

When I first started my blog I only posted about one time per week. From the research I did online, experts were saying that quality content is better than having a large quantity of posts that aren't very good. While that is true, I found that when I posted one time per week I was not advancing in page rank and did not attract a large number of visitors to my blog. I set a goal to post 5 times per week (Monday - Friday) and have stuck to that goal for the most part. I have seen much better results when I am posting fresh content 5 times per week.

So I would say, dive in and post away. The more you do it, the better you will become. Your first posts may not be fantastic, but you should improve the more you do it.

Tip 5: Don't Give Up

The end game for blogging is to increase online sales from your AVON store, right? Success for me with online sales has not been overnight. It takes hard work, consistency, and time to build up. My blog, along with all of my social media accounts, have produced 50% increases in online store sales for each of the past 3 years. My intention is to continue to build each year. Each year I am working toward achieving higher and higher online sales. And each year I am learning more and more about blogging and social media, what works and what doesn't. You won't know until you try. So get started and dig in! You can do it!
